Kenya has recorded 318 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 41,937.
Regrettably, 10 patients succumbed to the disease over the same period, bringing the total number of deaths to 787.
Health CAS Rashid Aman, while speaking at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on Tuesday, October 13, announced that 2,592 samples had been tested over the period bringing the total samples tested so far to 595,791
At the same time, 243 patients were discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 31,340.
Aman noted 111 patients were in hospitals and 132 under home care.
He urged Kenyans to safeguard the safety of children by not overloading public service vehicles with preventive measures put into high gear.
“I appeal to all Kenyans to be vigilant now more than ever to safeguard our school going children. PSV vehicles must not overload.
“Preventive measures must be adhered to forestall new infections and transmission,” he stated.
He further warned of the likelihood of a second wave hitting the country noting that the positivity rate had risen to 12%.
“A second wave is likely possible. Today our positivity rate is above 12pc. It is a dangerous sign. Public gatherings are breeding grounds. We are closely monitoring the situation in schools however the risk of children transmitting the virus is low
“We will require to conduct testing in schools with large populations to rule out infections. We have sufficient reagents to take us to the next quarter,” added Aman.
“There have been reported cases of reinfections. There are questions of a lasting immunity to Covid-19. I ask Kenyans not to relent in adhering to preventive measures,” he remarked.
