Covid-19 Update: Kenya Hits Highest Cases Of Coronavirus With 184 Cases, 27 Discharged, 2 Deaths- Total Cases 4,044

Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rashid Aman on Wednesday, June 17, announced that 184 individuals had tested positive for Covid-19 over the past 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 4,044.

Speaking during the daily Covid-19 briefing at Afya House, Aman stated that 2,118 samples had been tested during the period bringing the total samples in the country to more than 124,474.

He further revealed that of the new cases, 129 were male and 55 female. All of them were Kenyan except one.

The total number of counties that have recorded a positive case rose to 40 after Vihiga recorded one case. Westlands recorded 33 positive cases, a threefold rise from the 11 cases that were recorded on Tuesday, June 16.

Nairobi continued to record the highers cases at 111 followed by Mombasa (19), Kajiado (14), Meru (13), Kiambu (9), Busia (6), Nakuru (4), Machakos, (3), Kwale with Kisumu, Garissa, Taita Taveta and Vihiga Counties recording one (1) case each.

An additional 27 Covid-19 patients were discharged over the same period after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 1,353.

Unfortunately, two patients succumbed to the disease bringing total fatalities to 107.

In Nairobi, the cases were distributed as follows; Westlands, 33, Kibra, 19, Langata 18, Embakasi Eas, 15, Dagoretti North 12, Kamukunji, 4, Makadara, 2, Starehe, 2, and Embakasi Central, 2, with Roysambu, Embakasi West, Kasarani and  Embakasi South recording 1 case each.

In Mombasa, nine cases came from Mvita with Changamwe recording 4, Likoni, 2, Nyali, 2, Jomvu and Kisauni one each.

Kajiado County cases were distributed in Kajiado Central, 12, Kajiado East and Kajiado North 1 having one each while Meru had 13 cases from Imenti North.

In Kiambu, 9 cases were from Lari, three from Juja, Kabete, 2, as Kikuyu, Kiambu Town and Limuru recorded 1 each and in Busia, all 6 cases were truck drivers in Malaba (5), and Matayos (1).

In Nakuru, Naivasha had 3 and Nakuru East 1 while the three from Machakos originated from Athi River, and in Kwale, 1 case came from Lungalunga.

“The only test that can confirm the positive test is the Real-Time PCR test which has been approved by the Ministry of Health,”  stated Aman while warning the public of faulty test kits in circulation.

He further disclosed that Nairobi Hospital, Kenyatta National Hospital, and the Aga Khan Hospital were among a handful of centers that have been approved to run the Covid-19 tests.
