Covid-19 Update: Coronavirus Cases Continue to Rise As Kenya Registers 122 Infections

Health CAS Mercy Mwangagi on Friday, April 3, announced that the total number of those affected by the Covid-19 disease in the country had risen to 122.

During the usual briefings from Afya house, the CAS stated that in the last 24 hours, 12 people had tested positive for covid-19.

“Of the 12, 11 are Kenyans while one is a Somali national,” she stated.

She added that a 6-year-old boy succumbed to the disease, adding that the child had some other underlying conditions as well.

“I am saddened to inform you that we have lost another patient to the coronavirus disease. The person is a 6-year-old male child who was also ailing from other conditions and had been admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital,” she stated.

“Medical staff who handled the boy have been quarantined,” she added.

The number of those who have succumbed to the disease in the country is now at 4.

The CAS further distributed the 12 new cases as follows; Kiambu 1, Laikipia 1, Mombasa 2, Nairobi 7 and Nyeri 1, adding that 300 tests had been conducted in the past 24 hours.

Nine of the 12 confirmed covid-19 cases were detected while in quarantine while the other three were suspected cases who were admitted to different health facilities.

The CAS informed Kenyans that contact tracing had been done on 1433 samples from those in quarantine; 617 are awaiting testing.

The Health Ministry is monitoring 1,721 contacts and so far 1,073 have been discharged.
