Covid-19 Update: 497 New Cases, 372 Discharged With 15 Deaths- Total no of Cases 27,425

Kenya has recorded 497 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of cases in the country to 27,425.

During the daily Covid-19 briefing at Afya House on Tuesday, August 11, Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi announced that 4,171 samples had been tested over the same period bringing total samples tested so far to 352,501.

Of the 497 cases tested, 312 are male and 187are female.

At the same time, 372 patients have been discharged from hospital bringing the total recoveries to 13,867.

Regrettably, 15 patients succumbed to the disease bring the total death toll to 438. 11 cases had underlying conditions with several being diabetic.

Nairobi led the park with 236 cases followed by Kiambu 45, Kajiado 26, Mombasa 19, Machakos 19, Laikipia 18, Trans Nzoia 17, Kisumu 17, Murang’a 11, Nandi 11, Nyeri 8, Busia 8 and Bomet 7.

Other counties recorded less than five cases each.

The CAS further confirmed that Samburu is the last county to record a Covid-19 case.

“Looking at the situation yesterday, only West Pokot out of the 47 counties had only one case confirmed,” she stated.

She further indicated that Nairobi county has 1,180 beds, 1,104 are for isolation cases while 76 are equipped to handle ICU cases.

“Samburu county has 10 cases of coronavirus. The virus is now in all 47 counties. The Ministry has been conducting an assessment to know our level of preparedness.

“Nairobi has a capacity of 1,180 beds of which 1,104 are isolation beds,” she added.

She also urged counties to invest in sensitization hailing Mombasa as having carried out successful sensitization that saw cases decline.
