Kenya has recorded 492 new cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19) with the total cases reported so far rising to 26,928.
Out of these, 331 were identified as male, while 161 were women.
Speaking during a press briefing in Kericho on Monday, August 10, Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mutahi Kagwe announced that the confirmed cases were recorded from 4,063 samples tested in the past 24 hours.
The total samples tested since Coronavirus broke out in March 2020, now stands at 398,330.
478 of the new cases are Kenyans while the rest are foreigners.
A total of 534 more patients have also recovered from the disease. This now brings the cumulative number of recoveries to 13,485.
478 of the latest individuals to recover from the virus were from the home base care program, while 56 we’re from various hospitals across the country.
Sadly, 3 patients also succumbed to the virus.
In his address, the Health CS urged Kenyans to stop stigmatizing patients who had recovered from Covid-19. He further urged that such individuals should be given all the support they needed to be able to reintegrate back into society.
“Stigmatization of people with Covid-19 is still a problem, it is not a death sentence, when people recover they no longer share the virus so there is no need to stigmatize,” he explained.
“As much as Covid-19 is a highly infectious disease, should one contract it, it is not in itself a death sentence and like any other disease, it will be managed by our healthcare workers,” he added
The new cases were distributed across the various counties as follows: Nairobi 357, Garissa 52, Kiambu 37, Kajiado 14, Machakos 10, Busia 5, Baringo, Embu, Mombasa & Murang’a with 3 each, Kilifi 2, Isiolo, Makueni and Uasin Gishu with 1 case each.
