Covid-19 Update: 22 New Cases, 22 Discharged, 4 Deaths -Total No Cases 737

Health CAS Rashid Aman on Wednesday, May 13, announced that 22 individuals had tested positive for Covid-19 in the preceding 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 737.

Speaking during the daily Covid-19 briefing at Afya House, the CAS stated that 1,516 samples had been tested during the same period bringing the total samples tested in the country to 35,432.

Of the 22, the CAS stated that 21 were Kenyans while was Ugandan. He added that the youngest case was 20 years old while the oldest was 80.

“17 are male, five are female,” the CAS continued.

He also announced that 22 individuals had been discharged, bringing the number of recovered cases to 281.

Four individuals succumbed to the disease, three in Nairobi and one in Mombasa, bringing the total number of deaths to 40.

In terms of case distribution in counties, the CAS stated that; Nairobi had 10 cases, Mombasa (8), Kajiado (3), and Bomet (1).

The total number of counties to record at least one positive case rose to 20 after Bomet recorded its first case.

In Nairobi, the cases were spread out as follows: Embakasi (4), Kamukunji (3), Kibra (2), and Kenyatta National Hospital (1).

On the other hand; Mombasa had 7 cases in Mvita and one case in Nyali.

He further announced that the Ministry had collected samples from truck drivers in Tanzania at the Namanga border point on the Tanzania side.

Aman disclosed that 25 of these samples tested positive for coronavirus with 23 being Tanzanians, one Rwandese, and one Ugandan national.

The CAS reiterated on the need to wash hands regularly, wear masks as well as observing social distancing.
