Kenya has recorded its largest number of Coronavirus (Covid-19) recoveries after 175 patients were discharged from isolation facilities.
This brings the total number of recoveries to 1,048, Health CAS Rashid Aman announced while addressing the media at Afya House, Nairobi on Wednesday, June 10.
“We shall be failing if we do not recognize the good work of our health workers whose efforts and dedication has made it possible to record these recoveries. I urge you to join me in appreciating health workers for this wonderful achievement,” Aman stated.
In the last 24 hours, Kenya recorded 105 positive Covid-19 cases from a sample of 2,273. The total number of Covid-19 cases in the country now stands at 3,094 from 102,956 samples tested so far.
One patient succumbed to Covid-19 bringing the total number of fatalities to 89. The patient had been admitted to a hospital in Nairobi.
“I send my condolences to the family of the departed,” Aman mourned.
Out of today’s cases, 96 are Kenyans and 9 foreigners, 77 are male and 28 are female. The youngest is 2 years old and the oldest is 77 years.
These cases are distributed in the following counties, Nairobi with 43, Busia 18, Mombasa11, Turkana 7, Migori 6, Kwale, and Kiambu at 5 each.
Kilifi, Machakos, and Taita Taveta recorded 3 cases each. Kisumu had 2 cases while Uasin Gishu, Siaya, Kajiado, and Garissa had 1 case each.
A breakdown of the figures in relation to sub-counties within Nairobi saw Ruaraka record 14, Langata 5, Dagoretti North, and Kamukunji 4 each. Embakassi East, Embakassi West, and Kibra recorded 3 cases each.
Starehe and Westlands had 2 cases while Makadara, Mathare, and Embakasi South each recorded 1 case.
All the 18 cases recorded in Busia are truck drivers similar to the 7 cases in Turkana. In Mombasa, Kisauni recorded 5 cases, Likoni 4 and Mvita 2.
“As we can see we are seeing the issue of truck drivers rising at the various border points. Particularly at Busia and Malaba. As a Ministry, we are working very closely with the County Government of Busia to provide them with the necessary support to address the situation,” Aman added.
