Kenya has recorded eight Covid-19 related deaths bringing the total number of fatalities to 607.
An additional 104 Covid-19 positive cases were recorded in the last 24 hours as the country’s total caseload rose to 35,460.
During the daily Covid-19 briefing at Afya House on Wednesday, September 9, Health CAS Rashid Aman announced that 2,285 samples had been tested over the period bringing the total number of samples tested so far to 481,982.
Of the positive cases, 101 are Kenyans and three foreigners.
It was announced that 71 of the new cases were male and 33 were female while the youngest case is a one-year-old child and the oldest is aged 75.
At the same time, 74 patients were discharged, 41 from the home-based care program, and 33 from hospitals around the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 21,557.
Regrettably, 8 more patients succumbed to the virus, bringing total fatalities to 607.
In the county distribution, Nairobi led with 18 cases, Mombasa 16, Kisumu 13, Embu 11, Laikipia 11, Murang’a 6, Narok 4, Kericho 4, Kiambu 3, Meru 3, Machakos 3, Taita Taveta 2 and Uasin Gishu 2 cases.
Bomet, Kajiado, Kwale, Lamu, Vihiga counties all reported one case each.
CAS Aman noted that laxity among residents that was rolling back the gains made in reducing transmission of the virus.
“Our surveillance teams have observed that containment measures are not been adhered to including wearing of face masks. There is continued overloading in matatus both in rural and urban areas.
“Overcrowding in public spaces, especially market places with many people not observing physical spaces. Also, political gatherings have been on the rise,” he observed.
