Bus conductor gets degree after funding it with Sh. 1,700 weekly

A Nairobi-based bus conductor has attained a university degree which he painstakingly funded with Sh. 1,700 per week.

29-year-old Simon Ndaya Maina graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce in Procurement from the University of Nairobi in December last year.

From his job as a tout, Ndaya had been saving between Sh. 1,700 and Sh. 1,800 every week which he’d pay at the university to keep himself in school.

Announcing the inspiring news, Ndaya posted on his Facebook wall last year:

“God has a special time for everything. Never early! Never late! It takes a little Patience and Faith, but it’s WORTH THE WAITING.

The journey is over, and now i wish to take this golden opportunity to invite all of you to celebrate and give thanks with me, during my graduation on 2nd December @ the University of Nairobi.”

The second born in a family of six had applied for the degree course at the University of Nairobi in 2009.

In his KCSE, Ndaya had scored a grade B (Plain) with 64 points.
