Businessman and politician Bundotich Zedekiah Kiprop, commonly known as Buzeki, has officially joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party. This marks a notable shift in his political journey in the Rift Valley.

Buzeki, who has been a strong critic of President William Ruto’s administration, was welcomed at the UDA headquarters on Thursday by the Hassan Omar party secretary general. In his remarks, he praised the government’s performance and underscored his commitment to supporting UDA’s agenda.

“Hatutaki kuwa fence sitters. Tunataka kuja penye uchumi imekolea. Na hatujakuja usiku, tumekuja mchana. Sasa hakuna kucheza home and away. Tunacheza home. Ni fire si fire. KBB ni Kiprop Bundotich Buzeki,” he stated.

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar welcomed Buzeki warmly, expressing confidence that his entry would enhance the party’s political base. “Tunakukaribisha hapa. Ni two term na sasa venye Buzeki amefika itakuwa two term tena,” Omar remarked, highlighting the party’s future prospects.

Buzeki previously contested the Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat in 2017 and 2022 but was unsuccessful in both attempts. In 2022, he ran as an independent under the slogan “Uongozi ni sera,” receiving 127,013 votes while losing to current Governor Jonathan Bii, who had 214,036 votes.

After joining UDA, Buzeki explained that his decision was driven by the strong urging of his supporters. “Most of my supporters have been in UDA, beckoning me to join the party,” he shared.

His move is anticipated to shift the political landscape in Uasin Gishu and across the Rift Valley. Observers suggest that his presence could strengthen UDA’s grassroots connections as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
