Brookhouse Parents To Pay 50% For Now, Until Further Notice

Parents of Brookhouse School learners have been allowed to pay 50 percent of Term Three fees pending the hearing and determination of the case between them and the institution.

The order was made by the Deputy Registrar of High Court on Thursday who also suspended all online classes for kindergarten to Year 4.

This follows a petition to the High Court on April 29 to suspend the payment of full fees as the country grapples with the effects of Covid-19.

Through lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi, the parents wanted fees reduced by 30 percent for Term Three.

The school has five days to present skeletal arguments on the case before the two parties (parents and school) are served.

“The respondent will file and serve their responses to the application and hearing, order be and is hereby issued staying the implementation of online classes for kindergarten up to year 4 pupils,” Deputy Registrar of High Court said on Thursday.

The case will next be heard on May 13.

As indicated on the Brookhouse website, fees range between Sh150,000 and Sh335,000 per term.

The parents in their application claimed other schools of the same parity have considered requests by distressed parents and have granted considerable fee discounts of up to 50 percent in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
