Kenyans are renowned for their resilience and hard work, qualities that have allowed most of them to travel far and wide thanks to their knowledge and abilities.
Bramwell Bushuru is an air traffic controller from Kenya who was hired by the prestigious St. Helena Island in the South Atlantic Ocean thanks to his abilities.
Brazil borders St. Helena Island to the far left, while Angola borders it to the far east.
There are approximately 4,300 people living on the island, which is a part of the United Kingdom.
Before bringing his wife and child, Bushuru mentioned that he was the sole Kenyan resident on the island at the time.
“When I first got here, I started asking around if there were any Africans and if so, any Kenyan. I was told that there was a number who worked as teachers but left the Island,” he said.

In an interview, Bushuru explained that after moving to South Africa, where he took a job during the 2010 World Cup, he heard of a position at St Helena.
“In 2010, South Africa needed air traffic controllers so I joined the state-owned Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS). I worked there until 2016 then I came to the island because ATNS got the contract to provide air traffic services to the St Helena government that’s when I came to the island,” he said.
Bushuru who has worked in the field for more than 20 years was named the officer in charge of air traffic control at St Helena Airport, the island’s primary airport.
Apart from his work at the airport, he is also the captain of the golf club on the island and the vice-chair of the public accounts committee.
