Safety Measures, After Bodaboda Operator Raped Client

A bodaboda suspected rapist was arrested on Thursday by special service unit detectives who have been deployed around the Gachie area.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations confirmed the incident via Twitter, saying the suspect, Dennis Wekesa had been taken into police custody.

He is accused of assaulting sexually, a foreign national on the night of March 7.

Information gathered that the customer had requested the boda-boda ride through a hailing app while at Anahita apartments within Parklands.

She was to be dropped off at Siaya road within Kileleshwa.

It is said that en route Kileleshwa, the bodaboda rider wrestled, raped and dumped his victim before escaping with her personal effects.

He is said to have switched off his phone and gone into hiding.

The victim was treated at a local hospital, discharged and is in a fair condition.

The 27-year-old suspect will be arraigned in court once the necessary police procedure is complete.

This comes after bodaboda buzz all towns for business and some are not trustworthy people. Others have criminal records and are not vetted.

It would be good for the government to take up safety measures to curb crime within the industry.
