KCB sets sights on Mozzart Cup following Bandari draw

KCB FC Assistant Coach Elvis Ayany has said the team is shifting its focus to next weekend’s Mozzart Cup after picking up a 0-0 draw against Bandari FC at the Mombasa Sports Club this afternoon.

After today’s result, the bankers maintain their tenth position on the log standings with 35 points, Ayany says the remaining fixtures will be crucial in the team’s fight for a top four finish.

“We created a lot of chances in today’s match in both halves but it is a shame that we did not execute as expected to pick up the three points. Nonetheless, I am happy with the draw. Our focus now shifts to next weekend for the Mozzart Cup,” noted Ayany.

Star striker Derrick Otanga got a glorious opportunity in the first half to head home and give KCB a lead, but he could not get past Bryne Omondi who was superb for the home side.

Bandari on the other side kept threatening with Mohammed Barisa sending crosses on the left wing but striker Francis Kahiro, formerly of KCB could not capitalize on them to score past Farouk Shikhalo.

In the second half, KCB was the better side creating numerous chances however Derrick Otieno, Derrick Otanga, and Shadrack Simiyu were not clinical enough to seal the win for the Ruaraka-based side.

“The players are highly motivated after this draw. We knew that Bandari is a top side, and we did not want to take anything to chance. Hopefully we can score more goals in the upcoming match,” said goalkeeper Farouk Shikhalo.

The team will resume action on April 27 against Kakamega Homeboyz in the Mozart Cup quarterfinal clash at the Police Sacco Stadium.
