Arsenal Transfer News: Sanchez, Fabregas, Draxler, Bacca

The day started off brightly in the world of Arsenal transfer rumours after it was reported that the club had already begun their January transfer dealings and were already in talks to sign AC Milan forward Carlos Bacca.

Bacca, who is 30 and therefore fits the bill of “players Wenger does not like to sign”, only moved to Milan last year but has recently fallen out with manager Vincenzo Montella after deciding to watch his former club Sevilla, rather than go to Milan’s match at Empoli.

According to the Daily Express, Arsène Wenger is looking at an improbable move for former captain Cesc Fàbregas as cover for the injured Santi Cazorla.

Following reports on Monday that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola had already called up Alexis Sánchez in an effort to unsettle the Chile forward whose contract with Arsenal runs out in 18 months time, Arsenal counterpart Arsène Wenger has opened negotiations with the player’s agent, he has confirmed.

Speaking at the press conference ahead of tonight’s Champions League game with Basel, Wenger said he was confident he would be able to keep hold of Sánchez and Mesut Özil, whose contract expires at the same time as his Chilean team-mate, at the club.

Wenger said that he expects both players to re-sign with the club, though that he was in talks with their agents rather than the players directly.

“Nowadays, you negotiate with the agents more than with the player. We are in negotiations, yes. But the players always come in at the end, when it’s a renewal.”
