This accident came barely three months after the car of Mariam Kigenda plunged into the Indian Ocean killing her alongside her daughter Amanda.

Efforts to retrieve the bodies took weeks.

A witness identified as Nyalo at the time of the accident said,

‘DADA ALITOA MKONO NJE YA DIRISHA LAKINI HAKUNA USAIDIZI WALIPATA. GARI ILIKAA JUU YA MAJI ZAIDI YA DAKIKA ISHIRINI KABLA YA KUZAMA.

[THE 35-YEAR-OLD MOTHER TRIED TO WAVE THROUGH THE WINDOW BEGGING FOR HELP BUT NO ONE WENT TO SAVE HER AND HER DAUGHTER.

THE VEHICLE FLOATED FOR MORE THAN 20 MINUTES BEFORE IT SANK.] THERE WAS NO SPEED BOAT TO SAVE THEM.’

Our condolences to the family.
