A seven-member team has been proposed to oversee a peace and reconciliation process between Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and members of the county assembly.
In a Press release, Waiguru said the move follows extensive consultations on how to refocus priorities towards efficient service delivery to Kirinyaga residents.
“Upon the recommendation that we have peace initiative, I have accepted the following names of persons who have been proposed to oversee the peace and reconciliation process the executive and the county assembly of Kirinyaga,” the statement reads.
The team is composed of J.S Mathenge (Kirinyaga elder and former Permanent Secretary); Archbishop Anthony Muheria; Paul Maringa (Principal Secretary of Transport) and Nancy Karigithu (PS Shipping and Maritime Affairs).
Others are Mary Kimonye (PS for the State Department for Public Service); John Njiraini (Former KRA Commissioner General and Charles Ndegwa Mwai (Pastor from Mwea).
They are expected to come up with terms of engagement and convene a reconciliation meeting between the executive and the county assembly of Kirinyaga.
“We will ensure that the expectations and aspirations of our people remain the focus programs and project so as to move the county higher,” Waiguru said.
According to Pastor Mwai, the stalemate between the Governor and the county assembly is bringing shame to Kirinyaga County.
“We are not fighting the COVID-19 pandemic because of executive and the assembly so I welcome the move to mediate the peace talks,” he told Citizen Digital.
Some county assembly members however said they were not aware of any proposed peace talks with the Governor.
County Assembly Majority Leader James Kamau Murango said: “I have seen it on WhatsApp and I wonder why some Kirinyaga leaders like senator and others are not included.”
On his part, Wamumu Ward MCA Baptista Kanga asked: “Who appointed the proposed team?”
Archbishop Anthony Muheria of Nyeri Diocese said he was not aware he had been proposed to be part of the Waiguru peace talks team.
