Kenya’s Attorney General Githu Muigai has asked the National Assembly to consider extending the 2017 election date to allow proper reconstitution of the electoral commission.

Currently, the 2017 General Elections are set for August 8 2017.

Ag Githu Muigai told the select committee looking into IEBC matters that altering the election date, which would extend Parliament and President’s term, does not guarantee a referendum.

Githu Muigai also advised that the nine secretariat staff be vetted, not replaced.
