AFC Leopards to stage home matches at Bukhungu Stadium

AFC Leopards will have 12-day long residential training camp in Mumias ahead of the start of the 2023-2024 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season.

The team is set to depart Nairobi for Mumias next Sunday according to the club’s secretary general Gilbert Andugu.

The administrator also revealed plan to play a friendly match before boarding the bus to Mumias, an area the club draws massive support.

Leopards have been training in Nairobi from the time the team resumed for pre-season activities and will shift base in order to finalize their preparations.

We will travel to Mumias on Sunday for our final bit of the pre-season. We will camp in there for twelve days. Hopefully we will play a friendly match before travelling to Mumias,” said Andugu.

With the season set to kick off on Augist 26, Andugu confirmed that Ingwe will host their opener at the Bukhungu Stadium.

Leopards who confirmed former Kenyan international Tom Juma as their new head coach will kick off the season with a clash against FC Talanta.

Ordinarily, Leopards stages home matches at the Nyayo National Stadium but owing to the unviability of the facility, the club was forced to look for alternatives.

Andugu confirmed that they had registered Bukhungu as their preferred home ground and were in the process of looking for another venue that can play host to their home matches.

Sports Kenya, closed Nyayo for renovations, particularly the playing surface that bore the brunt of the World U20 Rugby Trophy tournament that was held in Nairobi.

The body is hoping that the surface will be in good condition to host the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary round pitting Kakamega Homeboyz against Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi.

We have no choice other than to play home matches at Bukhungu. Nyayo will be unavailable for some time due to the renovations works. We are hoping to submit another venue for home matches to the league managers soon,” he added.

Regarding the FIFA transfer ban, Andugu assured that the issue will be dealt with before the new season gets underway.
