Date Set, Invite Cards Ready For Governor Anne waigurus Traditional Wedding

Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru and her lover Kamotho Waiganjo have settled on July 13, 2019, as the day they will exchange their vows to officially become husband and wife. The power couple will solemnise their marriage in a Kikuyu traditional wedding ceremony known as Ngurario which will take place at Kiamugumo Primary School in Kirinyaga county.
Under the Kikuyu tradition, Ngurario is the final part of the community’s wedding and is meant to formalise the marriage. The woman is usually considered taken and becomes part of her husband’s family once the ceremony is done.

Traditionally, the ceremony, which does not have to take place in a church, happens before the woman can be allowed to go to the man’s place.
Ngurario normally starts with slaughtering of a goat by the groom and his relatives and friends at the bride’s place. The knife used in slaughtering the animal is provided by the soon-to-be mother-in-law, but there is a twist, the mother-in-law must be enticed with a gift before she can give out the knife. The animal’s meat is then roasted.
The governor said yes to the love of her life Waiganjo during a colourful ruracio (traditional engagement) ceremony held on February 16, 2019 in Waiguru’s Kiamungo village, Kirinyaga county. The dowry negotiation deal went on successfully giving the two love birds the green light to become one.
