Bolt’s premium ride category in Kenya, Bolt Comfort, has grown more than sixfold in monthly ride volume over the past year, reaching its highest total since the category launched in Kenya in June 2025. Monthly passengers using the category have also grown more than fivefold over the same period.
The growth, sustained over twelve months and now spanning Nairobi and Mombasa, reflects growing demand among Kenyan passengers for a ride experience that offers more space, newer vehicles and highly rated drivers. Notably, the category has maintained a passenger rating of approximately 4.9 out of 5 throughout the year as it has scaled and the estimated pickup time has improved by approximately 18% year-on-year.
Bolt Comfort was launched with a quality framework covering vehicle condition, appearance and driver performance, which has remained in place as the category has grown. Vehicles are physically inspected against a Bolt checklist through a partnership with a reputable Kenyan automobile inspection provider, with Bolt subsidising part of the inspection cost to make participation more accessible to qualifying drivers. Vehicles are subsequently re-inspected on a regular cycle.
Drivers carrying Comfort trips must maintain a minimum rating of 4.8 alongside a strong service record, ensuring that the category continues to meet the standards passengers expect from a premium ride option. The 18% improvement in estimated pickup time over the past year reflects the practical benefit of a growing, well-distributed driver network, passengers are waiting less, while the quality of the ride itself has held steady.
Dimmy Kanyankole, Senior General Manager, Rides, East Africa, said: “What this year has shown us is that passengers aren’t just looking for a ride, they’re looking for the right ride for their needs. Comfort has grown because we built it around a clear standard and stayed true to it as demand grew. Growing fast is one thing; scaling without compromising the experience is what makes a category worth choosing.”
Bolt accelerates EV adoption and expands driver opportunities across Kenya
The number of drivers offering Comfort trips has nearly tripled since launch. For drivers whose vehicles and service records meet the eligibility criteria, Comfort offers access to a higher-demand tier of the platform. The growth in driver supply has also contributed directly to the improvement in pickup times, more qualifying drivers across Nairobi and Mombasa means shorter distances between a Comfort vehicle and a waiting passenger.
Comfort has also steadily expanded its geographic footprint. The category launched in a single zone of Nairobi in June 2025 before expanding across the city. In May 2026, it launched in Mombasa, marking its first expansion outside Nairobi and demonstrating that demand for the category extends beyond the capital.
The sustained demand for Comfort over the past twelve months points to a growing segment of Kenyan ride-hailing passengers who prioritise the quality of both the vehicle and driver experience and are willing to choose a category built around those expectations.
Comfort is positioned as a premium option while remaining competitively priced against comparable offerings. Its highly rated driver rating, maintained through a year of rapid growth and geographic expansion, provides a measure of the experience the category continues to deliver.
As Bolt Comfort closes its first year in Kenya at its highest monthly volume to date, Bolt will continue applying the same quality standards as the category develops further.
