DP Gachagua’s Staff Grilled Over Gen-Z Anti-government Protests

Three senior staffers attached to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were questioned on Tuesday as part of an ongoing investigation into who may have financed the anti-government protests.

According to The Star, police spent hours interviewing officials at the DP’s office in Karen. Two Nairobi MPs have also been grilled.

This comes as detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are looking into the violent protests and looting of shops in Nairobi and Central Kenya.

Police said they expect to record testimonies from several officials, including a former governor, about the pandemonium.

The individuals had been summoned to the DCI headquarters for questioning on various occasions.

Police believe the individuals coordinated goons who looted businesses and other locations when Gen Z protested in the city.

They have disputed the allegations. Aides include the politician’s advisors. For the time being, police claimed there was insufficient evidence to link the individuals.

They want to learn more about the individuals’ suspected role in the disturbance.

Teams in charge of the investigation have relied on intelligence, which they argue is not actionable at this time.

For example, there have been reports that a politician bribed the goons to raid and plunder the premises, then blamed it on the demonstrators.

Another rumor claims that a politician bribed goons to attack and burn a government office.
