Tom Mboya Adala, an Assistant Director at the National Intelligence Service (NIS) headquarters in Ruaraka was recently found dead at his house after allegedly taking his own life.
According to a police statement, the NIS boss reportedly took his own life at his home in Kilimani and left behind a suicide note which was found in his bedroom.
The incident was reported at Kilimani Police Station by Mboya’s nephew Francis Oduor under OB number, 43/04/06/2024.
Mboya’s lifeless body was found on June 4 in the servant quarters of his home in Kirichwa Villas with a self-inflicted wound to the head.
Oduor told the police that he last saw his uncle the previous day at around 10 PM when he went to his bedroom upstairs to sleep.
The following morning, Oduor noted that nothing seemed unusual until their househelp raised concerns when Mboya did not appear for breakfast.
Oduor went to his uncle’s room upstairs but he was not there, and when he inquired from their watchman, he said Mboya had not left the home.
This prompted Oduor to thoroughly search the premises and eventually discovered Mboya’s lifeless body in the servant quarters.
Following the harrowing discovery, Oduor reported the matter to Kilimani Police Station before informing family members.
Police officers and senior NIS officials arrived at the scene where a Glock 19 pistol was recovered alongside one spent cartridge and a magazine containing three rounds.
Inside Mboya’s bedroom, another magazine loaded with 13 rounds was found, along with a suicide note written in a black notebook placed on the bed.
The note read, “Going home. Nobody to blame! Just need permanent peace and quiet. Peace. Love. Humility. Cheers.”
According to Pulselive, Mboya also left instructions for his children who live with their mother, advising that they should visit his grave often.
According to sources privy to the deceased, he had been battling depression which is believed to be caused by marital issues and the divorce that he was going through.
