Renowned Mugithi singer Mary Wangary Gioche, popularly known as Kareh B, continues to mourn following the death of her 17-year-old son, Joseph Maduli, who died in an Easy Coach bus accident that occurred in Mamboleo area, Kisumu County, on April 1, 2024.
Joseph, a Form Four student at Chavakali Boys High School, passed away on Monday night after the bus they were traveling in, to go home for the April holiday, overturned at the Mamboleo junction.
Speaking through her social media pages, Kareh B is now seeking answers regarding her son’s death, revealing that she is not coping well following the tragic incident.
“I need answers, I am broken,” Kareh B said on Facebook.
She claimed that she has not yet received any information about her son’s death and what transpired. She also lamented the issue of school children traveling at night.
The artist from Murang’a County also called on the government to provide answers regarding road accidents, an issue she urged to be addressed urgently.
“Government; what is your take on this issue? Will you continue to remain silent and lose more children on the roads?
What measures are you putting in place to reduce accidents occurring in the country, especially among the young generation? Do we need to resurrect Michuki?” she wrote.
“I need answers. Go well, my son,” Kareh B added.
Kareh B spoke to Citizen TV on Tuesday, where she explained how she learned about the accident through social media on Tuesday morning. She said that she and other parents had already expressed their concerns about the students traveling at night, but it was the only plan for the trip that the school could arrange for the students.
“I couldn’t sleep. Between half past six and seven at night, news on social media. That’s when I got a message that the Chavakali bus had overturned,” Kareh B said.
The singer said she came to know that her son had passed away in the accident on Tuesday morning, several hours after the accident occurred.
She noted that her son did not arrive with many other students who had traveled from Kisumu to Nairobi and arrived in Nairobi on Tuesday morning, but her son did not make it.
“I started wondering why my son hadn’t arrived. When I asked one of the teachers who said he was at the scene of the accident, he told me that those who had suffered minor injuries were given permission to call their parents to tell them not to worry, I am in the hospital, I am fine,” she said.
