Relief as woman kidnapped by ex-husband in Nairobi is rescued in Meru

A 39-year-old woman who had been missing since being abducted in Nairobi was on Sunday rescued in a police operation in Kachiongo, Maua, Meru County.

Police identified the victim as Shankara Adan Hassan and revealed that she had been held captive in an abandoned house since October 13.

Shankara Adan Hassan, who was rescued from an abandoned house in Meru, told detectives that she was kidnapped by three men, one of whom she recognized as her ex-husband.

The victim claimed that Abdullahi Mohamed Guled, the prime suspect, told her he still loved her and was kidnapping her so they could live together again in Kachiongo, Maua, and Meru.

She had been abducted from Nairobi along Likoni Road as she headed for work at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

A team of detectives from Nairobi and another from DCI Imenti North and DCI Igembe Central were involved in the operation.

The officers said they first arrested a suspect in Maua Town. After intense interrogation, he led them to an abandoned house at Kachiongo on the outskirts of Maua Town, where the victim was rescued.

They also recovered a saloon car believed to have been used in the abduction.

Police said they were looking for two other suspects involved in the case.

According to the police, the victim only drank water during her three days in the abandoned house where she was locked in.

After her rescue, police took her for medical attention while the suspect and the motor vehicle were taken to DCI Makadara Nairobi for further action.

According to her family, Shankara sold tea and snacks at the airport cargo section prior to her kidnapping.

During her abduction, she was riding in a taxi from Eastleigh Section 3 to JKIA on October 12 when individuals posing as police officers flagged her down.

The driver reported to police that, at approximately 10 pm, he was pulled over at the Likoni Bridge on Likoni Road in Nairobi after men who were in a salon car flagged him down as he drove ahead of it.

After he pulled over, the two occupants, who pretended to be police officers, alighted and ordered the female passenger to board their vehicle.

He then informed the driver that she was wanted and that they were transporting her to Shauri Moyo Police Station for questioning.
