Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has come out to report that only 2,000 people are registering in every county every day.

This was stated by the IEBC chief executive officer Ezra Chiloba on Wednesday.

The low turnout was highly recorded on the first day of the exercise. On Monday, it was claimed that while Siaya County had recorded 2,000 new registrations, only 800 people had registered as voters in Kiambu County. This claim, which was circulated online could not be verified by the IEBC.

On Monday, Mwingi Central had registered 30 voters by midday from the 37 BVR kits availed to the constituency. This was reported by area IEBC registration chief Bernard Musee.

Voter registration exercise in Mombasa County has been characterized by low turnout despite massive public awareness campaigns. About 200,000 eligible voters in Mombasa comprising of Mvita, Kisauni, Changamwe, Likoni, Nyali and Jomvu constituencies are targeted for registration.
