The news of a former air hostess quitting her 11-year career to join a controversial cult in Kenya has shocked many.
According to reports, Betty sold her land for a whopping Sh7 million and took the money to the cult leader, Pastor Paul Mackenzie, as tithe and offerings.
She reportedly headed to a remote village in Kilifi County, accompanied by her sister and niece, to join their mother, a long-time follower of the Good News International Church.
However, the situation took a tragic turn when Betty’s son died while fasting in the forest to meet Jesus Christ.
Moreover, the discovery of multiple bodies in the 800-acre Shakahola land has raised serious concerns about the activities of Pastor Paul Mackenzie’s church-like cult.
The exhumation of 20 more bodies in the area, bringing the total number of bodies exhumed to 67, has intensified the ongoing investigations into the cult.
Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Amin Mohammed visited the area to oversee the exhumation of the bodies and rescue any remaining survivors.
While 29 more people have been rescued, the ownership of the parcel of land is currently under investigation.
The police are also combing the forest to ensure that no one else is still trapped or missing.
