Harambee Stars players threaten strike over unpaid allowance arrears

A section of Harambee Stars players have reportedly threatened to go on a slow strike if their allowance arrears of sh 54,000 are not paid as agreed.

Players who preferred not to be identified claimed that the Kenyan Football Federation has been engaging in evasive tactics, causing delays in the payment of their allowance arrears.

“They promised to pay us, but until now we haven’t received the money.” One of the players who requested anonymity told this scribe.

This comes days after Harambee Stars recently lost 1-2 to Iran in an international friendly match played at Azadi Sports Complex in Tehran.

Kenya was returning to international soccer after 16 months of being out of action.

Harambee Stars took the lead in the 51st minute with a goal from Michael Olunga. However, Iran responded strongly and dominated the game, with FC Porto midfielder Mehdi Taremi going close to scoring but being denied by Joseph Okumu’s block.

Iran eventually equalized in the 75th minute when Mohammed Mohebi headed home a free kick from Razeian.

Harambee Stars struggled to find a second goal, with Iran’s defense proving to be tough to break down. In the 84th minute, Razeian, who had provided the assist for Iran’s first goal, scored the winning goal with a left-wing shot that was fumbled by Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi.
