Jubilee passes law allowing manual voting

Jubilee MPs have passed the motion allowing for manual voting. The members of parliament allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s and his Deputy William Ruto’s Jubilee passed the law in a special session that was held on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, as the MPs passed the law, CORD MPs held protests in the streets of Nairobi.

They claimed that they had been intimidated in parliament by the Jubilee MPs and police officers who had been deployed at parliament buildings.

There were claims too that journalists had been barred from accessing the establishment, and that phones and the internet had been shut down within the buildings.

The passed law allows for manual voting in case technology fails during the 2017 elections.

Further reports indicated to Newsday Kenya that Cord had moved to court to protest against the laws.

Earlier on Tuesday, CORD leader Raila Odinga had claimed that there will be no elections if laws pertaining to next year’s general elections are changed.
