NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua on Monday, August 10, issued a number of demands to President Uhuru Kenyatta over what she termed as a collapsing government.
Karua pointed out some of the flaws in Uhuru’s leadership most of which revolved around poor governance during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We state unequivocally that President Kenyatta’s private interests and 2022 succession must not be forced down the throats of Kenyans when his government remains incapable of doing what Governments are supposed to do,” she noted.
The former Gichugu MP stated that corruption in the government has adversely affected service delivery to Kenyan in the Education, Health, Food Shelter, and Jobs.
“For all practical purposes, this government has collapsed. The only things that seem to be functioning in this government are misprocurement, taxation, and political patronage. KENYANS DESERVE BETTER,” she asserted.
Karua called for an immediate end to what she described as the lack of leadership in the Education Sector and address the concerns by parents on the fate of education after the nullification of the 2020 school calendar.
Demand for accountability on Covid-19 funds was also part of the concerns raised by Karua including loans, grants, donations, and support both locally and internationally.
She urged the government to reallocate funds part of the National Budget to the Ministry of Health from other sectors such as security.
Karua also demanded the investigation, arrest and successful prosecution of those found culpable to have participated in graft at Afya House.
“We demand accountability, President Kenyatta must address the endemic corruption in the health sector including the repeated adverse mention of people close to him,” stated Karua.
With counties grappling with nurses strikes, Kaura demanded the immediate release of delayed salaries and the government to cater to metal bills incurred by health workers in the line of duty.
The former Minister of Justice demanded cash transfers from the government to needy Kenyans who have been adversely affected by the pandemic
The repayment of Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) loans should also be suspended by the government should be suspended according to Karua.
Grants to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) were suggested by Karua with a number of them closing down during the pandemic.
“We also demand that the government provides cash grants to Medium, Small and Microenterprises which are the engine of our economy yet we continue to see a fixation with the 1% of big businesses who are politically connected and have superior lobbying power,” she concluded.
