A primary school teacher, from Ndooni Primary School in Endau zone, Kitui County was on Tuesday, January 7, burnt to death by parents whose children study at the school, in a case associated with poor performance posted by the students in the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.
Speaking to KNUT secretary-general Wilson Sossion confirmed that Daisy Mbithe Mbaluka was attacked by the parents in unfortunate circumstances leading to her cold blood murder.
“The parents invaded the school, evicted the teacher, and later ambushed her while she was on the way taking her children to school, killing her instantly, and set her body on fire.”
“The irate parents had camped at the school gate demanding transfer of all teachers due to what they called bad results,” remarked Sossion.
The secretary-general further termed the action as a threat to the education stakeholders in the region, which would lead to barriers in the county education sector progress.
Sossion further indicated that the parents had earlier invaded the school on Monday, January 6, demanding a transfer for all teachers in the institution.
“That parents can kill a teacher should not be taken lightly. The heinous murder was totally uncalled for.”
“I call upon the Kitui County Commander, Ministry of Education and all stakeholders to swing into action. It is a curse that the residents have brought to their children. All teachers in Kenya must stand in solidarity to condemn the incident,” added Sessions.
Sossion further called for security organs to act fast in investigating the matter and providing security for all teachers in the region.
“Parents who killed Mbaluka should be investigated, arrested, charged and convicted according to the law of the land.
“No stone should be left unturned as we have witnessed such ugly incidences in North Eastern Region, North Rift, Western Region, and South Nyanza,” he stated.
In a statement on Facebook, the school headteacher Dickson Musya indicated that he had recorded a statement with Knut demanding that all teachers in the school be relocated and the killers brought to book or he resigns.
According to Citizen TV, Mbaluka’s murder sparked a heavy controversy in the area leading to the deployment of detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
