Five Kenyans are among 72 people who have been deported from the US.

According to the police and immigration officials, a private plane carrying the 72 individuals including the Kenyans landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport this morning.

The other 67 persons were of Somali origin. In January 2017 two Kenyans and 90 Somalis were deported from the US for immigration reasons.

Early this year, US president Donald Trump stopped the entire US refugee programme in an executive order and instituted a 90-day travel ban for nationals from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

Although a US judge issued a stay temporarily halting the deportation of visa holders or refugees under the executive order, immigrants in the US have been facing a constant threat of deportation.
