15 killed in accident on Nakuru-Eldoret Highway

    At least 15 people have died in an accident on Tuesday morning along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

    The victims included eight adults and seven children including five girls.

    The accident involved a bus and a 14-seater matatu.

    According to police, 38 others escaped unhurt in the crash.

    The death toll has surged to over 20 in separate accidents within two days, as reported by the police.

    The latest incident occurred around 2:45 am at the Twin Bridge area, involving a collision between a bus from Classic Kings of Congo and a North Ways Shuttle Toyota matatu.

    Police confirmed that all occupants of the matatu lost their lives

    Three bus passengers sustained serious injuries, with ten others experiencing minor injuries.

    Police from Mau Summit responded promptly, assisting in transferring the injured individuals to Molo Hospital.

    Rift Valley police chief Tom Odero stated that an investigation into the incident is underway.

    “It was yet another tragic morning where we have lost 15 people. Others are injured and are in hospitals,” he said.

    He appealed to all motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads to prevent road crashes.

    On Monday, four people were killed in two separate accidents.

    One of the accidents happened along the Isinya-Kitengela Road involving a matatu and a stalled lorry, police said.

    Another one had died alone on the Narok-Bomet highway involving two vehicles.

    Police said the deceased was a matatu driver.

    The accident, a head-on collision between a Transcar Galaxy Sacco Toyota Hiace matatu and a Mitsubishi Fuso lorry, occurred around 1 am in Tegero on the Narok-Bomet road as the matatu was en route to Nairobi.

    In a separate incident, three fatalities occurred over the weekend in Kericho and Nyamira.

    In Nyamira County, along the Chebilat-Ikonge road in Kipkati area, a bodaboda rider with three passengers was fatally struck by a lorry heading towards Ikonge.

    The rider died on the spot while the passengers were admitted in hospital.

    In Kericho, one person was killed in an accident along Litein -Kericho road at Chebawon area.

    Three other people were injured in the accident, police said.

    On the same road, a rider veered off the road and landed in a ditch.

    This was as he negotiated a corner.

    He suffered serious injuries and was rushed to South Rift Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

    The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

    Police statistics show more than 40 people have died in separate accidents in the country this year alone.
