In total, Sir Alex won 38 trophies in his 27 years as Manchester United boss. When he took over as United manager in 1986, he stated: “I want to knock Liverpool of their f***** perch”. That started the greatest rivalry in English football.

2. Jock Stein

Team managed: Celtic Trophies won: 10 Scottish First Division, eight Scottish Cups, six Scottish League Cups and one European Cup. He became the first manager of a British side to win the European Cup, with Celtic in 1967. Stein also guided Celtic to nine successive Scottish League championships between 1966 and 1974 winning 25 trophies in total.

3. Rinus Michels:

Teams managed: Ajax, Koln, Barcelona, Bayer Leverkusen and Netherlands National Team. Trophies: Four League titles and European Cup with Ajax, League titles with FC Koln and Barcelona. European Championship in 1988 with Holland. Named as manager of the century by FIFA, Michels had a massive impact in European football particularly his invention of “total football” in Holland. He took Ajax from the verge of relegation to European Champions winning four league titles on the way.

Liverpool Trophies: Six English Div 1 titles, three European Cups, one UEFA Cups and four League Cups. Paisley won 19 trophies with Liverpool in his nine years as manager and that elevated Liverpool to absolute glory in 1970s and early 80s. He rose to fame with Porto dominating Portuguese football winning three back-to-back titles plus two Euro crowns.

Real Madrid, Spain National Team Trophies: Two Spanish League titles, two Spanish Cups, two Champions Leagues with Real Madrid. One World Cup and one European Championship title with Spain national team. Del Bosque is a huge figure in Spanish football who dominated as a player winning five league titles with Madrid and he became their full time manager in 1999 to 2003.

7. Brian Clough Teams Managed:

Derby County, Notthingham Forest Titles: One English Div 1 title with Derby County in 1972, one Div 1 title with Nottingham Forest, two European Cups (1979 & 1980) and four league cups. Was a legendary figure who took two teams from bottom to the English Div 1 titles.

Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich Notable Trophies: Two Champions League and one Series A title with AC Milan, League titles with Chelsea and PSG. Champions League with Real Madrid. Ancelotti made AC Milan the top European Club in his six-year stint from 2001 to 2007.

9. Ottmar Hitzfeld Notable Jobs:

Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Switzerland national team Notable Trophies: Two German league titles with Dortmund and one Champions League, five League titles with Bayern Munich and one Champions League.

One of the greatest managers to have worked in Germany, Hitzfeld rose to fame with his native clubs in Switzerland before joining Borussia Dortmund with whom he won two league titles, two German Cups and one Champions League in 1997 before joining Bayern Munich where five league titles, three Germany cups and Champions League trophy in six years.

10. Pep Guardiola Teams Managed:

FC Barcelona, Bayer Munich and Man City Trophies Won: Three Spanish League titles, two Champions League, 3 Copa Del Rey and three Bundesliga crowns. Guardiola started his managerial career with Barcelona and turned his tenure at the club as the most successful in the history of the team winning a treble. He went on to guide Barca to 14 major trophies before leaving for Bayern where in three years, he won three league titles and two German Cups.
