The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is set for a 12-month upgrade with the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) announcing a disruption notice to travellers.
Passengers departing the airport have been advised to arrive at least four hours before the departure time.
The Ksh963 Million refurbishment works being undertaken at terminals 1B and 1C aims at improving the check-in, security screening, retail operations as well as lounge experience for departing passengers.
A press release seen from KAA revealed that the refurbishment will transform the airport to offer travellers a memorable experience.
“The 12-month airport development project which is estimated to cost Ksh963 million aims to refurbish the departure halls to improve the check-in, security screening, retail operations as well as passenger lounge experience.
“Once completed, the newly renovated light-filled departure terminals will deliver modern concessions and amenities that will give travellers a friendly and memorable experience,” read part of the press release.
The renovation also includes new world-class retail and food options, best-in-class technology, upgraded check-in and lounge areas, improved passenger flows and other travel experience enhancements.
The passenger flow will be enhanced due to the centralization of security screening procedures and the reallocation of available floor spaces to international departure gates.
KAA acting CEO Alex Gitari noted that the refurbishment aims to improve customer experience in the airport.
“The refurbishment and facelift of the T1B & 1C aim to align the passenger experience in these terminals to match what is offered at T1A.
“The remodelling project is an integral part of the ongoing JKIA Customer Service Improvement Plan (CSIP) which was formulated from feedback from our stakeholders and customers,” he noted.
Airlines that have been operating from Terminal 1B and 1C have also been issued with a notice for temporary relocation to Terminal 1A and Terminal 2.
