Covid-19 Update: New Cases 98, 52 Recoveries, 8 Fatalities – Total no of Cases 100,772

A total of 98 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 from a sample size of 3,739 tested in the last 24 hours. This takes Kenya’s cumulative confirmed positive cases to 100,773.

In a statement on Sunday, January 31, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that since the start of the pandemic 1,186,951 samples have been tested for the virus across the country.

From the positive cases, 86 are Kenyans while 12 are foreigners. 82 are males while 16 are females.

The youngest of the cases is a 10-year-child infant while the oldest is aged 85 years.

52 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus. 29 are from various health facilities across the country while 23 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

The total recoveries now stand at 83,907.

Unfortunately, 8 patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours bringing the total fatalities in the country to 1,763.

Nairobi led with 86 cases followed by Meru 2, Mombasa 2, Nakuru 2, Busia 1, Kajiado 1, Kiambu 1, Kisumu 1, Machakos 1 and Nyeri 1.

There are 471 patients currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 1,408 are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 25 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 14 of whom are on ventilatory support and 11 on supplemental oxygen.

Another 16 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with 13 of them in the general wards and 3 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

In terms of Sub County distribution; the 86 cases in Nairobi were from Starehe (48), Westlands (9), Dagoretti North (7), Kibra (3), Embakasi Central, Embakasi East, Embakasi West, Makadara, Mathare and Ruaraka (2) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi North, Embakasi South, Kamukunji, Kasarani, Lang’ata and Roysambu (1) case each.

In Meru, all the 2 cases were from Imenti North while in Mombasa the 2 cases originated from Mvita. In Nakuru, the 2 cases were from Naivasha and Nakuru East (1) case each.
