/gNAIROBI, KENYA, November, 4, 2026 – Pesalink and Postbank PLC have partnered to enable its agents to accept cash deposits from customers of participating banks through the Pesalink network. This collaboration will allow customers of participating financial institutions to deposit funds through any of Postbank’s over 600 agents and branch locations across Kenya, significantly expanding access points and enhancing financial convenience for millions of Kenyans. The service provides greater accessibility, convenience, and flexibility by increasing the number of locations where customers can conduct cash deposit transactions. Additional financial institutions are expected to progressively onboard the service in the coming months.
Postbank PLC has long provided agent banking services to other financial institutions through bilateral arrangements. By integrating with the Pesalink network, the bank is extending this capability through a shared payments infrastructure, enabling participating financial institutions to access its nationwide agent network without the need for separate bilateral agreements or individual technical integrations.
This development strengthens interoperability within Kenya’s financial services ecosystem and supports broader financial inclusion by expanding access to banking services through a more connected and efficient agent banking network.
Gituku Kirika, Chief Executive Officer of Integrated Payment Services Limited, IPSL, said:
“Agent banking remains one of the most important ways that Kenyans access financial services. As the sector evolves, banks and SACCOs have an opportunity to open their existing agent networks to other institutions, allowing customers to access cash services through agents beyond those operated by their own financial institution. This gives customers more places to transact while helping financial institutions get more value from their existing networks..”
There are more than 93,341 bank agents serving customers across Kenya. While digital payments continue to grow, physical cash remains an important part of everyday financial transactions. Connecting existing agent networks creates an opportunity to extend access to cash services without requiring every institution to independently build and maintain an extensive network.
For Postbank PLC, this extends the reach of its agent banking channels, bringing more transactions onto its existing infrastructure and increasing the value of its investment in agent banking. It also creates opportunities for its agents to serve a wider customer base beyond Postbank PLC’s own customers.
Dr. Raphael Lekolool, Managing Director, Postbank PLC, said:
“Postbank PLC pioneered agent banking since 1978 and has continued to invest in building a strong agent banking presence across Kenya in line with the Bank’s mandate on financial inclusion. Making our network accessible to customers of other participating financial institutions allows us to extend the value of that investment while creating more opportunities for our agents to serve customers. Through this arrangement, we can support greater access to banking services while making better use of the infrastructure we have already established.”
Postbank PLC customers will continue to access cash services through its agent network. As more banks and SACCOs are integrated into the service, their customers will also be able to deposit money directly into their accounts through Postbank PLC agents using Pesalink’s shared payment infrastructure. At this initial stage, the service supports cash deposits only; withdrawals through this arrangement are not yet available.
The development reflects a growing commitment across the financial sector to improve access to banking services through shared infrastructure. Customers have more places to transact, participating institutions can extend their reach, and agents can serve a broader customer base.
