LG Electronics (LG) is introducing the 40HT513D, a new 40-inch curved ultrawide diagnostic monitor designed to help radiologists improve efficiency and clinical productivity. The monitor has received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance as a medical device,1 strengthening LG’s medical display portfolio and reinforcing its commitment to developing displays tailored to healthcare professionals.
Streamlining Radiology Workflows on One Seamless Display
The monitor features a 40-inch curved IPS Black panel with 5,120 × 2,160 resolution and 11 megapixels (MP), offering the high level of clarity needed for medical imaging. Its expansive 21:9 aspect ratio enables users to perform tasks typically handled by three 3MP monitors on a single screen, helping streamline workflows and reduce reliance on multiple displays.
This large, unified workspace supports the simultaneous display of up to three different image sources, minimizing visual disruption from the bezels of multiple monitors. The 3 Picture-by-Picture (3PBP) setup allows radiologists to review current and prior X-ray, CT or MRI images alongside electronic medical records (EMR) on one screen, helping limit eye movement between displays and enhancing reading efficiency.
The monitor includes a built-in keyboard, video and mouse (KVM) switch that enables control of two PCs through one keyboard and mouse. Users can easily shift between connected systems by moving the cursor to the edge of the display, with drag-and-drop functions available for file transfers. This integrated approach eliminates the need for separate input devices or manual data transfers, helping radiologists maintain continuity during image review.
Diagnostic Precision with Calibration and Intelligent Software
To support consistent and precise imaging, the 40HT513D incorporates a detachable calibration sensor for accurate brightness and contrast control. The sensor tip remains stored within the unit during normal use to avoid obstructing the display and is exposed only for calibration or performance measurement. Its detachable design also simplifies maintenance and management.
Complementing the built-in calibration sensor, the monitor offers software features that support diagnostic image review. Focus View brightens a selected area and dims surrounding regions without zooming, helping reduce distractions and highlight critical details. Pathology Mode adjusts resolution and color representation settings optimized for pathological image display, which may support clearer visualization of cellular structures.
Beyond individual workstations, LG’s proprietary software, LG Calibration Studio Medical, enables integrated management of diagnostic monitors installed throughout a healthcare facility. Through a centralized server, administrators can conduct quality assurance tests that align with medical display standards and monitor the results. The software also provides real-time alerts when display performance abnormalities (e.g., calibration or brightness deviations) are detected, allowing facilities to respond promptly and maintain consistent image quality.

Clinical Feedback Reinforces LG’s Commitment to Medical Display Innovation
The 40HT513D has received positive feedback from a medical professional during a usability evaluation, highlighting its potential functionality and usability in radiology workflows.
“Initially, I had concerns about whether a curved display would be suitable for diagnostic reading, but I adapted quickly,” said Professor Jung Seung-eun, Vice Director of the Catholic University of Korea Eunpyeong St. Mary’s Hospital and President of the Korean Society of Radiology, after approximately seven weeks of use. “The wide, bezel-free screen allows for more efficient viewing of multiple images. In particular, it significantly reduces visual interruptions between the screens, while the curved display creates a more immersive diagnostic reading environment.”3
“LG will continue to strengthen its diagnostic monitor lineup and accelerate the growth of its B2B medical device business,” said Lee Choong-hwan, executive vice president and head of the Display Business Division at the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company.”
