As part of the AI for Good Global Summit hosted in Geneva, TikTok has announced a series of initiatives globally designed to strengthen AI literacy, improve transparency around AI-generated content, and enhance protection against AI-generated spam, reinforcing its commitment to helping people across the region use AI safely, confidently and responsibly.

As artificial intelligence rapidly transforms how people create, learn and connect online, TikTok is continuing to invest in tools, partnerships and safeguards that help its community navigate AI with confidence. This reflects TikTok’s ongoing commitment to fostering a safe and informed digital environment across the regions.

“We believe people should have context, confidence and control over their experiences with AI on TikTok. We continue to invest in technologies, partnerships and educational resources that help people spot AI-generated content, understand how it’s created, and use these tools creatively and responsibly,” said Tom Varghese, AI Lead for TikTok’s Global Public Policy team.

Tackling AI-generated spam to protect authentic creativity

AI is opening up exciting new opportunities for creativity and storytelling, but as technology evolves, it can also be misused to mass-produce spam that crowds out original creators and undermines trust. To stay ahead of these evolving challenges, TikTok is testing enhanced detection systems designed to identify accounts dedicated to posting AI-generated spam.

These improvements build on TikTok’s ongoing efforts to detect and remove spam at scale. In the first quarter of 2026 alone, TikTok removed more than 86 million fake accounts globally as the platform continues to strengthen its detection capabilities. TikTok is committed to fostering an authentic environment where genuine voices and original creators can thrive.

    Strengthening transparency around AI-generated content

More than three billion videos have now been labelled as AI-generated content using TikTok’s combination of Content Credentials, creator disclosure tools and invisible watermarking technology, marking a significant milestone in helping people better understand when content has been created or significantly edited using AI.

Building on this progress, TikTok has joined the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) Steering Committee to become part of the group helping shape industry standards for content authenticity and AI transparency. As one of the organisations guiding the future of Content Credentials, TikTok will work alongside industry partners to accelerate broader adoption of technologies that make AI-generated content more transparent across the digital ecosystem.

Helping people understand, explore and create with AI confidently alongside local partners

Education is critical to helping people understand and use AI responsibly, and that’s why TikTok has worked with industry partners the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) & Henry Ajder to create a guide that helps its community use AI tools responsibly.

To support this, TikTok is launching a new in-app AI literacy hub for users across markets such as South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya. The hub will provide accessible educational resources that help people recognise AI-generated content and better understand how AI tools are being used on the platform.

Additionally, TikTok has committed more than US$4 million to its AI Literacy Fund to date and will continue investing in the programme to expand its reach and impact. Since launching the initiative in November 2025, TikTok has continued to partner with trusted organisations like Moxi Africa in South Africa, the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development, Africa Check and Paradigm Initiative in Nigeria and Eveminet and Mtoto News in Kenya to deliver locally relevant AI literacy content that helps people use AI safely, responsibly, and critically. Together, these partnerships have generated more than 200 million views, demonstrating the growing demand for trusted AI education.

Building on this momentum, TikTok will continue expanding the programme to empower more communities with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate an increasingly AI-driven world.

Showcasing African innovation through AI creators

Across Sub-Saharan Africa, creators are increasingly embracing AI as a tool for storytelling, education and creative expression. From developing original visual content to experimenting with new production techniques, African creators are demonstrating how AI can unlock new opportunities while using these technologies responsibly. TikTok continues to support this creativity by investing in AI tools such as Smart Split and AI Outline, alongside features like Manage Topics, which give people greater control over how much AI-generated content they see.

Across countries like Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa, creators such as Tonnee Ndungu and Nyandia Gachago (Kenya), Olayemi Afolabi , Comfort Obiagbaoso (Nigeria) Motso Mike and Akhil | AI Engineer & founder(South Africa) are using AI in innovative ways to educate, entertain and inspire their communities, demonstrating the positive potential of AI-powered creativity on TikTok.
