As Kenya hosts a series of major international sporting events over the coming weeks, including the HSBC SVNS and the Magical Kenya Open, Uber has introduced a new rider promotional offer to help more people access reliable, affordable mobility during high-demand event periods.

The HSBC SVNS tournament is expected to bring together thousands of local and international rugby fans at Nyayo National Stadium, driving increased movement across key routes linking residential areas, hospitality zones, and the stadium precinct. Large-scale sporting events of this nature typically create concentrated travel demand within specific time windows, making reliable and predictable mobility critical to ensuring fans can arrive and depart safely and conveniently.

The upcoming Magical Kenya Open is also set to attract local spectators, international visitors, players, and tournament officials, further increasing travel demand across airport routes, hotels, event venues, and key tourism locations. As Kenya continues to strengthen its position as a global sporting and tourism destination, seamless mobility plays an important role in shaping visitor experience and supporting the broader events ecosystem.

Major sporting events typically see significant spikes in movement across key routes connecting residential areas, entertainment hubs, and event venues. To support smoother mobility for fans attending the tournament, Uber will provide special in-app promotions designed to help reduce movement barriers for both active and new riders traveling to and from the event venues, supporting smoother mobility experiences during high-footfall weekends.

“Kenya continues to host world-class sporting and international events that bring together fans, visitors, and local communities. Large-scale events like HSBC SVNS bring incredible energy to Nairobi and also create unique mobility needs across the city. Our goal is to help fans get to and from the stadium reliably and affordably, while also supporting drivers to benefit from increased demand during major event weekends,” said Imran Manji, General Manager, Head of East Africa, Uber.

The initiative is part of Uber’s broader efforts to support urban mobility during major national and international events, while also helping create increased earning opportunities for drivers through higher demand periods.

The new rider promotion will offer 70% off the first five trips, with the discount for each trip capped at KES 400 and will be available across all Uber products. The promotion will run until the end of May, covering key sporting moments including the HSBC SVNS tournament and the upcoming Magical Kenya Open. New riders can access the promotion by using the code: KENYAy4e92i1

Existing riders attending HSBC SVNS also received a dedicated event promotion through direct rider communications, offering discounted rides during the tournament period using the code RUGBY7SKE. Fans are encouraged to plan trips in advance, use designated pick-up and drop-off zones, and check the app for real-time updates during peak movement periods.

As Nairobi and other cities continue to host global sporting and tourism events, reliable and technology-enabled mobility solutions remain key to supporting both visitor experience and local economic participation.
