Seven students are reported dead following a dawn fire at Nairobi’s Moi Girls High School.

Reports indicate that 16 more have been hospitalized.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.

Cabinet Secretary in charge of Education Fred Matiang’i has confirmed the fire and said that investigations are underway to establish the cause of the fire.

He said that those found culpable will be prosecuted.

The fire comes a few days after the students at the school reported back for this academic year’s final term.

Last year, secondary schools in the country suffered from an outrageous outbreak of fires following strict rules that were enacted to curb cheating in national exams.
