Aspiring Member of Parliament for Embakasi North, Dorcas Mwigereri, praised the teachers and students of Dandora Secondary Day School for their resilience and strong academic performance, even in a tough environment.

During a recognition ceremony at the school, Mwigereri commended the dedication of teachers who continue to mentor and guide students despite limited infrastructure and resources. She described teachers as the backbone of the school’s success, highlighting their crucial role in keeping young people focused on education amid challenges like poverty, crime, and drug abuse.

“Teachers here go beyond the classroom. They are mentors, counselors, and role models. Their work is shaping the future of this community,” Mwigereri said.

She also recognized Aggrey Munandi, one of the school’s top-performing students, for his outstanding results in last year’s national examinations by missing one mark to get an “A” constant. Aggrey’s success was celebrated as an example of what can be achieved when discipline, hard work, and guidance come together, even in a day school where students face many distractions after class.

Mwigereri stressed that recognizing excellence motivates other learners to stay focused and avoid negative influences. She encouraged students to believe in their potential, regardless of their background, and emphasized that success depends on effort and support, not where someone comes from.

The school principal, Eustus Thiong’o, welcomed the recognition. He pointed out that the school continues to show improved performance despite issues like overcrowding and inadequate facilities. He urged ongoing collaboration between the government, leaders, and the community to support education.

The event marked both a celebration of achievement and a call to action, reinforcing the importance of education as a key driver of change in Dandora.
