Regional leaders and advocates unite in Nairobi to tackle GBV and promote positive masculinity

120 representatives of Civil Society Organizations from Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Mali and South Africa will tomorrow participate in a two days Regional Workshop on Positive Masculinity and the Fight Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) at Pride Inn Luxury Boutique Westlands Nairobi on 22nd – 23rd April 2025.

Under the theme “Empowering Girls and Young Women for Transformative Leadership by Fighting GBV and Addressing Toxic Masculinity,” the workshop will be graced by Ms. Anne Wang’ombe, Permanent Secretary – State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action in the Ministry of Gender, Culture, Arts and Heritage, H.E. Dr. Mathew Owili – Deputy Governor Kisumu County, Hon. Dr. Nancy Barasa, Chairperson – Technical Working group on Gender-Based Violence, Ms. Atonia N’Gabala-Sodonon – Country Representative, UN Women Kenya Country Office, Mr. Otim George – Country Director, PLAN International Kenya among other dignitaries

Workshop participants will include youth advocates, policymakers, gender experts, and male allies from across the region to critically examine the roots of GBV and build collective strategies for change.

Participants will engage in interactive sessions, powerful panel discussions, and collaborative dialogues to:
• Deconstruct toxic masculinity and foster gender-transformative change
• Strengthen leadership and advocacy skills among girls and young women
• Promote digital safety and tackle online child sexual exploitation
• Advocate for the ratification and implementation of the AU Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG)

This workshop organized by ECPAT International and Kenya Alliance for Advancement of Children (KAACR) in partnership with UN Women, Plan International, FEMNET, ACHJGA and Equality Now, is part of the She Leads Programme’s broader efforts to amplify girls’ and young women’s voices and drive systems change across Africa.
