Hundreds of hopeful homeowners and local residents gathered in Machakos for the much-anticipated Affordable Housing Open Day, reaffirming the government’s commitment to delivering affordable housing units across the Republic of Kenya, as part of a broader initiative to ensure every citizen has access to dignified shelter and improved living conditions.
The event, part of the broader Affordable Housing Project, showcased 220 newly constructed housing units comprising of 60 studio units, 40 1-bedroom units, 60 2-bedroom units, and 60 3-bedroom units, located at Machakos- Makutano road few kilometers from Machakos town aimed at providing decent and affordable shelter for Kenyans.

It is a nationwide initiative aimed at ensuring more people have access to quality housing,” she stated.
The event also highlighted employment opportunities linked to the project. Local construction workers, suppliers, and small businesses have directly benefited from the initiative, boosting economic activity in the region. “Beyond housing, this project is about job creation and empowering communities,” Kamau added.
Attendees were taken through the Boma Yangu registration and application process and answers provided for any question regarding the projects, house typologies and home allocations. Government representatives assured applicants that the selection process would be fair and transparent, with applications reviewed by the housing board.
Speaking at the event, Leah Kemboi, from the affordable housing board, reassured the public that successful applicants would be announced soon. “We understand the high demand for affordable housing, and we are committed to ensuring a transparent allocation process,” she said.
