The National Bank of Kenya (NBK) has extended a Ksh3 million sponsorship to this year’s Chemususu Dam Half Marathon, which will be held on November 16, 2024, in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County.
The proceeds from the marathon will support the enhancement of the Chemususu Dam catchment, create awareness of the importance of conservation in the area, and tap and develop the region’s athletes’ talent. The first edition of the marathon started in 2014.
Speaking during the cheque handover, NBK Managing Director George Odhiambo emphasised the importance of the sponsorship, stating that the support goes to a good course which aligns with the bank’s sustainability agenda.

“NBK is delighted to be part of this year’s marathon. I believe that through sports, we can bring people together and inspire them to lead active lives, and we are committed to seeing every good course come to fruition. We are confident that it will go a long way in helping the conservation of the dam and further benefit the people of Eldama Ravine and Baringo at large.” He added.
The Chemususu Dam Half Marathon is expected to attract participants from across the country and beyond, with over 3000 athletes battling it out for the top prize. This year’s edition will see a total of 4 races taking place, with a 21 km half marathon being the highlight of the day,10km involving the elite athletes, both male and female competition, a corporate race and a veteran’s category over 50 years old.
Eldama Ravine MP Musa Sirma welcomed the sponsorship, noting that it will help advance the community’s sustainability agenda and nurture talents in the region.

The conservation of the Chemususu Dam and environs is a key priority as it benefits over 500,000 people, directly and indirectly. Further, as a region with rich talents in athletics, this provides a platform for youth to develop and hone their talents.”
Athletics Kenya Baringo Chairman Benard Kitilit: “This is the 9th edition of the marathon that we started back in 2014, and its uniqueness lies in the extension of the community engagements that we do throughout the year as we prepare for the race. In the end, our goal is to ensure the sustainability of the environment around here and also grow the talents that, eventually, will carry the flag of the country on various stages.”
