Businessman Jimi Wanjigi has been arrested.
The outspoken businessman-cum-politician shared news of his arrest in an update on his X account on Monday, August 19.
“The DCI have illegally arrested me despite numerous court orders barring the same arrest,” Wanjigi wrote on X.
Wanjigi’s apprehension occurred shortly after he voluntarily reported to the police for questioning regarding the Nane Nane protests.
The investigators are also set to interrogate him concerning allegations of possessing teargas canisters at his residence in Muthaiga, Nairobi.
He has refuted these allegations, asserting that they are politically motivated.
The police had summoned Wanjigi to the Nairobi Area DCI offices on August 19 for questioning, following an unsuccessful attempt to arrest him at his home on August 8.
Accompanied by his legal representatives, Wanjigi arrived at the Nairobi Area around 2 PM, where he was promptly taken in for the questioning session.
A brief altercation occurred at the police station’s entrance when officers prevented him from speaking to the media, insisting he enter the premises immediately.
Wanjigi remained resolute, asserting that he would not be intimidated and demanded respect from the officers. Ultimately, he drove into the compound in his vehicle.
On August 9, a police team forcibly entered his home in search of him.
Subsequently, Wanjigi sought legal recourse and secured a court order to halt his arrest.
