Speaker Wetangula Dragged to Court Over Ksh 281K Dogs’ Debt

Moses Wetangula, the Speaker of the National Assembly, is facing legal action for allegedly neglecting to pay a debt of Ksh 281,000.

The issue stems from a contract for the provision of two German Shepherd dogs along with associated training services.

The lawsuit has been initiated by Isoka Bethwel in the Small Claims Court.

Court records indicate that Bethwel asserts Wetangula engaged him to deliver two male German Shepherd dogs and to offer training services.

Additionally, he claims to have been directed to provide two packs of dog food, four packs of Brave Active dog food, dog training sleeves, a dog leash, choke chains, and grooming brushes.

Furthermore, he supplied a dog nail cutter, five liters of dog shampoo, and five liters of kennel disinfectant, amounting to a total of Ksh 348,100.

Although an initial payment of Ksh 100,000 was received, Bethwel contends that the outstanding balance of Ksh 248,100 remains unpaid.

He maintains that Wetangula has failed to fulfill the agreement by not settling the remaining amount for the dogs and training services provided.

“I tried reaching out to the Respondent to recover the said balance but the Respondent rudely and adamantly informed me that the he would not pay me the remaining balance.”reads court papers

The claimant asserts that, after numerous efforts to obtain payment, he has been compelled to pursue legal action in court.

Additionally, Bethwel contends that the persistent circumstances have resulted in psychological distress, and he risks forfeiting the remaining balance unless the court intervenes.

“I waited for the payment of the remaining balance of Kenya Shilling Two Hundred and Forty-Eight Thousand, One Hundred (Kshs 198,100/-) but all was in vain,” he said.

Bethwel is currently requesting the court’s intervention to guarantee that he receives the complete payment that is due to him.

Wetangula has not yet made a public statement regarding the allegations.
