Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga is well-known for his legal achievements and for serving as Chief Justice from 2011 to 2016.
He is the father of four children, the most well-known of which are stepsiblings Wallimohammed ‘Al-Amin’ Mohammed and Shamilla Mutunga.
Al-Amin is named after his father’s best friend, the late Al-Amin Mazrui, an internationally renowned academic and author.
From a young age, Al Amin was interested in photography and videography.
Speaking to The Standard in February 2019, he stated that growing up, Mutunga provided them the freedom to pursue whatever they desired rather than limiting them to the law.
That being the case, he enrolled at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to pursue an undergraduate degree in Business and Information Technology.

Following his training, Al Amin began working as a videographer at the non-profit Pawa 254, where he states that he uses photography to promote social change.
He is an expert in his own right, so when Canon Europe organized a workshop in Kenya headed by famous photojournalist and Canon Master Gary Knight, Al Amin was one of the panelists tasked with selecting workshop attendees.
Some of Al Amin’s images have also appeared in local dailies, the most significant being the Daily Nation on March 18, 2016, when Mutunga handed over trial files for Mau Mau hero Dedan Kimathi to his wife Mukami Kimathi.
Under the username Chief_Mohazzie on Instagram, Al Amin has a collection of photographs taken not only in the country but even beyond borders in Uganda and Zimbabwe.
He speaks four languages, English, Swahili, French and Arabic at an intermediate level.
