Supa Loaf bread is one of Kenya’s most popular bread products, having been there for years and evolving with industry trends.
While millions of homes in the country enjoy Supa Loaf, few are aware that it was first produced in a small home bakery operated by the Akberali Manji family.
The creation of Supa loaf began in their home bakery.
However, Nurzakhanu Akberali Manji and her husband Akberali Habib Manji were able to obtain a business license and open a commercial bakery in Port Reitz, Mombasa.
Initially, Nurzakhanu ran business with her husband’s help but their three sons joined the company later and together they worked to build it into one of Kenya’s leading businesses.
In 1983, the family founded Mini Bakeries in Mombasa with the goal of producing and marketing various types of bread.

Years down the line, Mini Bakeries has emerged as an industry leader in Kenya and the East African with branches in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
According to its website, Mini Bakeries has directly and indirectly employed over 3000 individuals, including bicycle vendors and distributors who ensure the goods reaches the customer.
The company has achieved significant milestones, including expansion into Uganda and Tanzania and being named a Super Brand in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2011.
According to media sources, the company produces more than 2 billion slices of bread annually.
In addition to Supa Loaf, the Akberali Manji family operates Butali Sugar Mills, Island Paradise Inn and Akiyda Bakeries.
