Anthony Owich: Inspiring Story of Bar Next Door Owner Who Was a Hawker, Manual Labourer

Anthony Owich became interested in operating an entertainment establishment early in his life.

In an interview, he stated that on his way home from Nairobi West School, he would pass by South C with his uncle and would see revellers having a wonderful time and an idea would form in his head.

Later, Owich rose to co-found Bar Next Door, which has become a favorite among Kenyans and tourists.

In a previous interview, he mentioned that he co-founded the company with very little money and had previously sold clothes and worked at a chocolate factory.

Owich graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Statistics. This was followed by a Master of Business Administration from the United States International University.

He also holds a certificate in investment and security analyst from the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examination Board (KASNEB).

Owich worked as a license officer for the Performers Rights Society of Kenya between September and March 2012.

He then spent six months interning at the United Nations office in Nairobi from 2012 to 2013.

In September 2013, Owich began working as a Customer Service Representative for Chase Bank Kenya Limited.

He spent four months as a personnel analyst before being promoted to treasury sales executive in April 2015.

In August 2015, Owich became a Jameson Brand Ambassador.

His responsibilities included supervising sales in East Africa, marketing, managing vendors and event agencies, contributing to the annual budget allocation and brand plan and arranging cocktail classes, whiskey tastings, brand events and mentoring sessions

Owich began working as an assistant brand manager for urban development, digital, content, and influencers at Carlsberg Group in May 2017.

In October 2018, Diageo hired him as the luxury portfolio account manager.

Owich co-founded Bar Next Door in 2021 and now serves as its director of sales, marketing and business development.

He told Business Daily that he enjoyed bringing his dog for nature walks and dining as well as shopping and visiting different bars to try something new.

“I used to be an advocate for Jameson, and our training focused on responsible drinking. You may sell a persona without actually being that person,” he said.
